Phase I: Information Gathering The purpose of this phase is to understand the objectives, needs, and interests of both the student and his/her parents. Through personal interviews and using various assessment tools, information is gathered to help establish a set of criteria which in turn will direct the research. A letter which summarizes this information will be sent to the student and to the family as a result of this phase.
Phase II: Proposals Payment of consulting fee is due at this time. Based on careful exploration and my accrued knowledge, the student and his/her family will learn about extended experiences which are deemed a good match. The objective is to connect the student with a personally appropriate experience. Complete details and information including program evaluations and a list of past participants will be provided.
Phase III: Preparation The student can obtain help with program application; in addition pre-departure details will be addressed, such as: - cross-cultural orientation workshop - documented approval for transfer of earned credits to home institution - travel plans - student visa - international student identification card - additional medical insurance - standard release forms
Phase IV: Monitoring of Extended Experience I will be in contact with program directors, the student, and their families to monitor the progress of the extended experience(s).
Phase V: Re-entry -Credit transfer to home institution will be verified, when applicable. -Upon completion of a program, a student is asked to assess and evaluate his/her experience -Various ways of sharing his/her experiences are discussed.
